BTW, that's exactly what the fuckers said when we complained about using crippled equipment.

I'm so pissed I can't think straight.

Just got school.

Had to go to Bukit Batok just now to pick up a couple of thermocouple probes I ordered.

Now I just realized.... I need an ancient RS-232 cable for the data logger that I have!

It's so ancient that the NUS IT Co-Op actually laughed at me when I asked them whether they have it.... they told me to go to Sim Lim to buy it.

at least my boss was smart - he said unless the team gets the blackberry, he won't take one. his rationale - it's the team who does work; if emails come to him, no point coz he's only one person and can't do everything. plus equipment costs come out of the team's budget anyway and hence IT can't say "not do-able".

sometimes I think the people doing the supplies/procurement have the wrong KPI. instead of providing everything that people need, its more like..how much money can they not spend.

that's why on our end, the budget is with the team, not IT.

you guys have it good. sometimes the things they are outsourcing doesn't make sense. doing it internally would be much more efficient and most probably cheaper too. IT systems and network is one example.......

neti pot...

saline irrigation of your nasal cavities..

it really works

cassie SG

but's a direct hit on our profit and loss...which means we gotta double up the revenue. i guess this way we have more control.

deathwish SG

Sometimes outsourcing can be good also. But basically it all boils down to budgeting of the company

the Bear SG

i think our side, we have braindeaths who don't give a shit about the expenses of others..

they save on expenses = their KPI met..

however, we have to spend more because of their actions = our expenses, not their business..

@@ they want to increase number of nurses by 40% in 7 yrs..

given the shit pay and working conditions, they'll have to depend on a steady stream of foreigners(because they don't stay long, and neither do singaporeans)

av98m SG

and this is something I really do not get. why can't people understand that at the end of the day, only paying people more works.

and these nimrods are the same people who insist on huge pay packages for themselves. what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

cassie SG

I need a nice footlong tuna subway

is that for hitting someone or lunch?
